Symposium — September 12–19, 2025 — Online
Protocol Symposium 2025
The second annual Protocol Symposium was held September 12–19, 2025, organized around the theme Accelerating Order. The week-long online event brought together researchers, practitioners, and students across two sequential tracks: a focused research workshop and a structured educational program.
Foundations Workshop
September 12–14, 2025. A three-day research sprint with the goal of collaboratively developing a formal, mathematizable theory of protocols. Up to thirty researchers and practitioners participated across multiple Zoom sessions, working toward a first-draft whitepaper and a structured research program — moving protocol theory from a primarily descriptive field toward one amenable to formal analysis and computation.
Protocol School
September 15–19, 2025. Twelve 90-minute learning modules developed and delivered by eleven university teaching fellows over five days, covering protocol theory and practice at a college level. Open to students, researchers, and professionals; certification was available for participants meeting completion requirements. Hackathon and coworking sessions ran in parallel throughout the week. See the Protocol School program page for more on this recurring initiative.
